Portland police charge man in assault that left neighbor in critical condition

PORTLAND, Maine (WGAN) A Portland man is accused of attacking his neighbor and leaving him in critical condition.

Portland police said a man was allegedly assaulted by one of his neighbors at an apartment building on Danforth Street on Saturday night, according to our info partners at CBS 13 news. The victim, 63-year-old Rodney Cleveland, was bloodied and taken to Maine Medical Center.

Police charged 62-year-old Everett Meserve, in court on Monday, with elevated aggravated assault by use of a dangerous weapon. His bail was set at $50,000.

Details about the assault have been sealed.
