Portland police identify and arrest suspect involved in hate incident

The Portland Police Department said Monday a man accused of telling an Asian woman to “go back to her country” after kicking and breaking her car’s driver side mirror has been arrested.

Police say 47-year-old Troy Sprague, a transient, is charged with criminal mischief and interfering with constitutional and civil rights.

The incident happened March 15th on Forest Avenue. Sprague was arrested on Friday.

Attorney General Aaron Frey announced that he is filing a civil rights enforcement against Sprague under the Maine Civil Rights Act.
