PORTLAND, Maine (WGAN) The latest in a string of robberies in Cumberland County is under investigation.

Portland Police say a man entered the China Taste restaurant on Washington Avenue just after 8:30pm on Sunday, demanding money and threatening the clerk with a black semi-automatic handgun. He fled when other employees came out from the kitchen and wasn’t handed any money.

Police say the man was described as being white, about 5′ 5″, wearing an oversized hooded sweatshirt with a green camoflauge pattern pulled over his head and a dark zip up shirt underneath that was pulled up to cover part of his face. They believe he ran off shortly before fleeing in a vehicle on Maine Avenue.

This is the sixth robbery in the Greater Portland area since March 20th, including similar incidents in Westbrook, Falmouth, Cumberland, and Portland. Police are working to determine if they are connected.

Police are also asking residents living near Washington Avenue and Maine Avenue to check video from their home surveillance systems for any vehicle or pedestrian traffic recorded at the time of the robbery.
