Police in Portland say two people have been arrested stemming from an alleged assault that led to three officers being sent to the hospital.

Police say they encountered 21-year-old Frederick Archer while responding to an unrelated disturbance on Preble Street on Sunday evening.

According to police, Archer is a felon who’s not allowed to possess a firearm but had a handgun on his waistband. He allegedly resisted arrest, kicking and punching at officers. Three officers were treated and released from the hospital.

Police also arrested a 17-year-old who they say was part of a crowd that had formed around them. He’s accused of throwing a metal container and shoving an officer.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police.
