Portland police officer charged with assault

PORTLAND, Maine (WGAN) A Portland police officer has been charged with assault in connection with an incident that took place last year.

Major Robert Martin said Wednesday that Officer Christopher Crout was charged with assault and issued a court summons after a criminal investigation stemming from an incident in May of 2021.

The department said Crout has been with Portland police since January of 2019 and is assigned to the patrol division. He’s on paid administrative leave.

Police have not released any other information about the alleged assault.
