Portland Police officer involved shooting injures suspect Saturday Morning

PORTLAND (WGME)—The Portland Police Department says a suspect was shot early this morning in an officer involved shooting on Oxford St.

Police were called around 5:30 AM Saturday morning to the scene for a reported burglary in the area of the Preble Street Soup Kitchen at 252 Oxford St.

When officers confronted a possible suspect, that person was shot. They are currently being treated at Maine Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries and their identity has not been released.

The Maine Attorney General’s Office has been contacted and the Portland Police are assisting them in the investigation of the shooting.

No officers were hurt in this incident and the officer involved has been put on paid administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing.
