Portland police urge cyclists to take precautions amid rash of bike thefts

Police in Portland are investigating a rash of bike thefts in the city this year.

David Singer with the Portland Police Department says there have been 61 reported bicycle thefts from January 1st through May 16th.

Police are reminding people not to leave bikes outside, even if they are secured with a lock. They also recommend taking a picture of your bicycle and recording the serial number, since stolen bikes often can’t be traced back to the owner.

Anyone who may have witnessed any bike thefts recently is being asked to reach out to police.
