Portland to haul it’s Christmas tree to Monument Square this week

Photo: City of Portland

The city of Portland has found it’s Christmas tree.

The city says their forestry supervisor noticed the 40 foot balsam fir while cleaning up tree damage left behind by strong winds earlier this month.

The property owner agreed to donate the tree, which will be transported to monument square on Thursday morning.

This year, the city is introducing a “tree cam” overlooking Monument Square in lieu of a tree lighting event. There won’t be an official countdown to the tree lighting this time around, but they expect to have it lit up next Friday morning.

Passersby are still welcome to see the tree in person, but are urged to wear masks and keep their distance from others.
