PORTLAND, Maine (WGAN) The City of Portland says everyone ages five and older will have to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test at some indoor events starting next year.

The city already implemented those rules for everyone ages 12 and up in October, before the Pfizer vaccine was approved for kids as young as five.

The city announced Tuesday that the changes go into effect on January 1st. They apply to publicly attended events at city-owned and operated facilities including Merrill Auditorium, The Portland Expo building, and the Ocean Gateway.

Attendees also have the option of providing printed proof of a negative PCR COVID test taken within 72 hours of the event start time, or a rapid test taken with the last 12 hours.

The city said attendees over the age of two must also wear a mask unless eating or drinking.
