PITTSFIELD, Maine (AP) _ A Maine private school is making cuts because of financial problems.

WABI-TV reports Maine Central Institute will reduce some staff and administrative positions. The Pittsfield school will also cut its freshman basketball program along with fall and winter cheerleading.

School officials say the institution has been hit hard by declining enrollment. They say MCI relies heavily on international boarding students.

Dean of Admissions Clint Williams says officials are adjusting to the challenges. Williams says the quality of education at the school won’t be affected.
