Renegotiation of Maine Sea Grant to get underway after Trump administration orders cuts to program

Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins says the Department of Commerce has agreed to renegotiate the Maine Sea Grant.

The four-year funding agreement between the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the University of Maine provides about $4.5 million to boost research and economic development for coastal towns and cities.

Maine’s Congressional delegation has pushed back on a decision by the Trump administration to terminate the funding.

On Wednesday, Sen. Collins said Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has directed NOAA to renegotiate the terms and conditions of the funding agreement,
