PORTLAND, Maine (AP) The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host a public hearing on Central Maine Power Co.’s planned transmission line at the request of U.S. Rep. Jared Golden.

The Democrat says there is a lack of transparency and an opportunity for public input.

The proposed line would transmit Quebec hydropower to Massachusetts via a 145-mile line through western Maine to a substation in Lewistown, Maine.

Golden says it is important residents can express concerns.

A spokesperson for the company says there were several public hearings held last spring.

The Portland Press Herald reports that environmental activists, competing power producers and communities along the route have been working to scrap or modify the project.
