SCARBOROUGH(WGME)—The retirement community at the Piper Shores Campus got to showcase their art after two years due to the pandemic.

The ‘Annual Summer Solstice Resident Art’ show took place on Sunday at The Piper Shores campus in Scarborough.

This was the third time that this event has been organized, and the community likes to recognize that there is a strong connection between creativity and Wellness.

The art show featured work from many artists including the shows featured artist E.B. Moore also known as Liz.

Moore’s featured artwork is made of hand-crafted steel using numerous three-foot welding rods and an oxyacetylene torch. The sculpture replicates a large horse, depicting its muscular structure in the placement of the welded rods. Initially inspired by the biblical story of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, each of the horsemen represents a different facet of the apocalypse: conquest, war, famine, and death.

“I have a fascination with anatomy of all sorts, with both people and animals. Horses played a big part in my life when I was growing up because I ran a boarding stable when I was a kid. It was a good way to earn money and have fun at the same time. I did a lot of horses,” Moore explained.
