Rumford man charged in sexual assault of 8-year-old

Police say a Rumford man is accused of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl.

According to our info partners at CBS 13, police investigated after receiving a tip that the child may have been sexually assaulted in Rumford. An investigation found that 19-year-old Izayah Walsh allegedly assaulted the girl during a walk in the woods. They said the two knew each other.

Walsh was arrested Tuesday and charged with gross sexual assault. He was arraigned Wednesday with bail set at $1,000 cash.

His next court appearance is scheduled for December 23rd.

He faces up to 30 years behind bars and a $50,000 fine if convicted.
