Sanford man killed after crashing into tree believed to have suffered medical event, investigators say

A Sanford man was killed after his pickup truck hit a tree Thursday morning.

Police say the crash happened around 11:45 a.m. at the intersection of Brown and Swan Streets in Kennebunk. Investigators said 45-year-old Freeman Hatch was behind the wheel of his truck when he left the road and crashed head-on into a tree.

Police believe he suffered a medical event just before the crash. He was pronounced dead after being brought to the hospital.

The crash is under investigation.
