Scallop fishing in Maine has been shut down for most fisherman this season, the NOAA says that the order is effective on Friday.

Scallop fishing regulations require fisheries to close once officials project that 100 percent of the allowed set-aside is taken.

This closure is effective until the end of next March or until a new set-aside is approved.

CBS 13 reports that Fisherman with a Maine or Massachusetts state scallop permit may continue to fish in the state or Massachusetts inside a designated area thanks to the State Waters Exemption Program.
