There’s damage from a Tuesday afternoon fire at a three-bay garage on Whipple Lane in Scarborough.

Crews say they elevated the fire to an “All Hands” level after finding heavy smoke at the scene, with four other departments brought in to help out.

They say they were able to bring the fire under control in about 40 minutes and avoid damage to a two-story home located a few feet from the garage.

Firefighters say a person inside the home was woken up by his dog, and safely walked to the driveway and was met by neighbors.

The person was not injured, and there were no injuries to the firefighters on the scene.

Scarborough firefighters were assisted on scene by Old Orchard Beach, Biddeford, Portland, and South Portland Fire Departments, as well as the Scarborough Police Department.

Scarborough Fire Police closed Two Rod Road and Scottow Hill Road during the incident, and all fire crews were clear of the scene at 4:18 pm with both roads reopening at 4:20 pm.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation but appears to be accidental.
