The 24th Sebago Lake Ice Fishing Derby is in the books after Saturday’s event.

Sebago Lake Rotary Club holds the derby as part of the state’s “free fishing” weekend, although activities on Sunday were called off because of bad weather.

Fishermen got a chance to win a gift card for every fish caught, and there was a $5,000 grand prize for the biggest fish caught.

Saturday and Sunday marked the first of two  “free fish weekends” in Maine, which allow people to fish without a license. Another free fishing weekend will take place on May 31-June 1.

The derby takes place on 26 lakes and ponds in Cumberland County.

According to the derby website, the 2025 Derby Fish Pool Prizes will exceed $12,000.00, but not exceed $22,600.00 (State Law).

Proceeds from the competition go benefit the Feed the Need serving 12 local food pantries and other Rotary charities.
