The Yarmouth Clam Festival came to an abrupt stop on Sunday when a severe storm moved through the area. The Town of Yarmouth Fire Rescue said the decision to shut down the carnival and other events was a safety measure.

“Our priority is the safety of those attending the festival … I’m proud of the response by staff and organizers to react quickly and effectively to prevent injuries,” said the department.

The storm, which would go on to hit much of Southern Maine, included hail, lightning, and heavy rain. Some local towns shared the impact the storm had.

Falmouth Fire-EMS said the storm brought a few notable emergency calls. “Of the 13 calls we responded to, one was for 3 trees fallen on a house, one was for a tree that fell on a car that was driving, and one was for a roof that came off part of a commercial building on Route 1.” News Center Maine reported another roof being torn from a house in the Windham/Gorham area.

Falmouth Fire-EMS department said no one was injured in the incidents they responded to. WGME reported up to 5,000 Mainers were without power during the storm, however, most of those outages have since been fixed.
