Shapleigh Man Charged After Short Car Chase

SHAPLEIGH, Maine (WGAN)  The York County Sheriff’s Office says a Shapleigh man has been arrested after a short car chase.

Police say Monday night, a deputy tried to pull over a car that was leaving a convenience store in Shapleigh.

Police say the driver took off towards Newfield, instead, driving on the shoulder of the road for about 1,000 feet before stopping.  The driver then tried to run away into the woods, but was captured.

Police say the driver, 21-year-old Darrin Furlong, was charged with failure to stop for law enforcement, refusing to submit to arrest or detention and operating after suspension.

He’s scheduled to be arraigned via video Wednesday at 1 p.m.
