Firefighters say discarded woodstove ashes are the cause of a fire that destroyed a shed at a home in Topsham on Sunday afternoon.
Crews say they were called to the scene on Avon Drive to find a 20-by-20-foot shed under heavy fire conditions.
Topsham Fire and Rescue says they were already dealing with two ambulance calls and had to rely on off-duty firefighters to battle the fire, along with a water tanker truck from Brunswick.
They say crews from  Lisbon, Bowdoin, and Bowdoinham also assisted with the fire, which was quickly brought under control.
The homeowners were not at home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
