Singer, Broadway, TV Star With Ties to Maine Dies at 101

A famed singer, Broadway and TV star with strong ties to Maine, has died at the age of 101.

Jane Morgan performed at the Kennebunkport Playhouse at age 11 before moving on in the 1950s to receive six gold records and make numerous appearances on Broadway and TV, including the Ed Sullivan Show.

Morgan spent her summers with family in Kennebunkport, according to the Ogunquit Playhouse, which posted a lengthy tribute to her on social media Wednesday.

Morgan celebrated her 100th birthday at the Playhouse last year.

She bought her first house, Blueberry Hill in Kennebunkport, in 1958 and married her first husband Larry Stith in 1959, according to the Kennebunkport Historical Society. In 1965, she married her second husband, Jerry Weintraub, who was her manager at the time.

Between 1946 and 1962, Morgan released more than 40 singles and 19 albums, including “Fascination” (1957) that went to #13 on American charts and “The Day the Rains Came” (1958) that hit #1 in the UK.

Morgan received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2011, according  to numerous sources, including The Hollywood Reporter.
