The ski patrol staff at Sunday River are looking to unionize after announcing 70 percent of paid staff have signed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board.
They are hoping to join the United Mountain Workers union – CWA Local 7781. A union vote is expected later this winter.
“Across 8 peaks and over 800 acres of skiable terrain, our team provides medical care, hazard mitigation, terrain management, and guest services for the thousands of skiers and riders that visit Sunday River.” the group said in a statement.
The ski patrol staff is also asking Sunday River and Boyne Resorts, which operates the mountain, to invest in the ski patrol so they can continue to do their jobs at the highest level.
Sunday River management says it’s open to dialogue and respect’s workers’ rights to unionize.
