Police say a report of a plane crash on a lake in Falmouth Wednesday was a false alarm.

Falmouth Police say someone called them reporting a plane crash on the water off Falmouth Town Landing around 4 p.m. Wednesday. However, the aircraft was a belly float plane that lands in the water on it’s fuselage.

Sgt. Kevin Conger with the Falmouth Police Department told the Portland Press Herald that the landing on Highland Lake may have appeared to be forced because that type of plane doesn’t land on pontoons like a seaplane.

The pilot and passenger got back in the plane a short while later and departed.
