Flooding has forced some classrooms at a Cape Elizabeth elementary school to close.

A teacher discovered flooding in some classrooms when arriving at Pond Cove Elementary school Monday morning.

Cape Elizabeth Superintendent Chris Record tells our info partners at CBS 13 news the flooding was due to a mechanical failure in their aging heating system.

Classes were cancelled Monday for all first and second grade students.

Record said they’re still determining how long the classrooms will be closed.

Ceiling tiles, drywall, learning materials, carpet and some electronic equipment was damaged.
