South Portland city councilors have voted to ban the sale of flavored tobacco products, including vape products.

South Portland joins neighboring Portland and the cities of Brunswick and Bangor in banning the sale of the products.

In South Portland, the vote by the city council Tuesday night was 5-2.

The ban will go into effect in April.

Critics of the products argue that they get kids hooked and they’re being marketed specifically to children.

Shop owners said they weren’t selling the products to minors and it’s not fair to punish people who are old enough to buy them.
