South Portland man faces charges after attempted vehicle theft

A South Portland man was taken into custody after an attempted vehicle theft.

Police responded Monday evening to the Mobil Gas Station on Congress Street in Portland where witnesses said a man entered another person’s vehicle while they were pumping gas and tried to drive away.

The vehicle owner jumped on to the suspect as the vehicle crashed into nearby bushes.

The suspect, 38-year-old Aaric Rowe, was arrested and summonsed for reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and theft before being taken to the hospital for a pre-existing medical issue.
