South Portland Police Searching for Suspect Involved in Commercial Burglaries

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (WGAN)  South Portland Police say they are investigating after eight commercial burglaries happened in the overnight hours over the weekend.

Police say the burglaries all took place along Maine Mall And Gorham Roads.  In all instances, police say the doors of businesses were pried open with a crow bar, or similar tool, and cash was taken from registers.

Police say they have uncovered a common suspect in all the burglaries.  Police say the man parked in a parking lot on Western Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Saturday and then returned to he car around 4:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police described the suspect as a heavy set white male wearing dark rimmed glasses.  Police say he was dressed in dark clothing, including gloves.

Police say some of the surveillance photos make it seem the clothes he is wearing are light-colored, but that is due to cameras using night vision.

Police say the suspect may not be from the area since he didn’t make any real attempt to disguise himself.

Police believe his vehicle is a Nissan/Toyota type four-door sedan.

Anyone with information is asked to contact South Portland Police Detective Scott Corbett at (207) 799-5511, ext. 7449.
