A former South Portland High School student is facing additional charges 5 months after police discovered an alleged plot to commit a violent attack on the staff and students of South Portland High School.
According to CBS 13, the new charges allege that the student attempted to recruit another person to partake in mass murder at his High School.
The school and police say that because the teen, who is 16 years old, is being tried as a minor, the details they can release to the public about the case are limited. However, South Portland Superintendent Tim Matheney has reassured parents that their children are safe to come to school.
“I continue to have complete confidence that our schools are safe and secure for our students”, Matheney told CBS 13.
After the arrest of the teen and his father in April, the Portland Press Herald reported that police seized a number of high-powered rifles during their raid of the student’s home on Elm Street.
The teen has been charged with criminal solicitation, arson and terrorizing.
