Springvale man sentenced for arson that destroyed Sanford home

ALFRED, Maine (WGAN) A Springvale man convicted of arson is sentenced to 8 years in prison with all but 5 years suspended.

The Maine Fire Marshal’s Office says 25-year-old Johnathan Cox pleaded guilty on Friday for his involvement in a fire on July 6th, 2019 that destroyed a home on Montreal Street in Sanford and caused serious damage to the property next door.

The occupants in the building were able to escape through a window.

Cox was also sentenced to 4 years of probation.

He was seen arriving and fleeing from the scene on surveillance footage captured by a neighbor.
