Standish crash leaves wires down, driver trapped

A three-vehicle crash in Standish left utility wires down and one person trapped inside one of those vehicles.

According to a press release from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, it happened just before 6 p.m. Thursday on Route 35.

The release said that 62-year-old Nathan Bowles of Denmark suffered a medical event prior to the crash.

His vehicle struck a side mirror on a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.

He then sideswiped a second vehicle, which was operated by 35-year-old Stephanie Smith of Limington.

Smith’s vehicle crashed into a telephone pole and rolled over, coming to rest on its roof.

Smith suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Bowles was evaluated at the hospital, but police say it appears that he did not suffer significant injuries as a result of the crash.

The sheriff’s office says that the medical event suffered by Bowles appears to be the cause of the crash.

However, the crash remains under investigation.
