Maine State Police arrest man after standoff in Kennebec County

A man was taken into custody in Monmouth after allegedly causing a standoff with police on Friday.

According to CBS 13 news, 55-year-old Howard Gribbin is charged with creating a standoff, violating conditions of release, and violating a protection order.

Before noon, police responded to 378 Route 126 near the Monmouth-Litchfield town line to a report of someone violating a protection order. Police say Gribbin then barricaded himself inside of a garage, prompting the State Police Tactical Team to be called in.

Police say Gribbin was not armed.

Gribbin eventually surrendered peacefully and was taken to Kennebec County Jail.
