YARMOUTH, Maine (WGAN)  State Police are investigating the death of a 13-year-old Yarmouth girl Monday evening as a suspected suicide.

The victim is a seventh grader at the Harrison Middle School in Yarmouth.

Police say the girl was found unresponsive at her home by family members around 6:15 p.m. and she was rushed to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where she died shortly after arrival.

Yarmouth Police and Yarmouth Rescue initially responded to the home and then asked State Police to investigate following an Attorney General’s Office protocol that State Police investigate suicides of anyone 17 years or younger.

A team of State Police detectives responded to the home and the hospital last night to investigate the death.

An autopsy by the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta is scheduled for Wednesday.

If you and anyone you know is battling depression or has had suicidal thoughts, help is available at the Maine Crisis Hotline is 888-568-1112, and state resources are also available by calling 211 in Maine.
