Suspect attempts to light gas pump on fire in Augusta, police say

Augusta police are asking for the public’s help in locating a man after they say he attempted to set a diesel fuel pump on fire Sunday morning.

According to our info partners at CBS 13, the incident happened at 12:45 a.m. Sunday outside MD’s market at 240 riverside drive near Augusta’s 3rd bridge.

The state fire marshal’s office provided a surveillance image of what police describe as a young man who bought a gasoline additive, lighter fluid and a roll of paper towels before trying to light the pump on fire.

The fire went out and caused only minor damage.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Augusta police.
