Contract talks between Bath Iron Works and its largest union have stalled, after the union’s negotiating committee rejected the shipyard’s “last, best and final” contract offer Saturday.

This after weeks of negotiating.

Earlier in the week, union workers rallied outside the Bath shipyard, arguing against the use of subcontractors and other issues, indicating a willingness to go on strike, according to our news partners at CBS13 News.

Representatives Chellie Pingree and Jared Golden both called on Bath Iron Works to reconsider using subcontractors.

Bath Iron Works President Dirk Lesco says its their right to subcontract and that BIW has done a lot for Maine including hiring more than 1500 Mainers in the last year.

The next step will be for the full union to vote on the contract offer.
