Teenager suffers serious injuries in crash involving tractor-trailer

RUMFORD, Maine (WGAN) A Mexico teenager suffered serious injures following a crash in Rumford on Wednesday.

The Sun Journal reports 17-year-old Phoenix Hughes was taken to Rumford Hospital in serious condition after the car she was in collided with a tractor trailer at the intersection of Route 2 and Route 5.

Police say a person in front of Hughes was turning, so she pulled into the oncoming lane to go around the vehicle. Police say she over-corrected when she saw an oncoming car and hit the guardrail, lost control of her vehicle and was the hit by the tractor trailer.

Police are investigating the crash.
