As a surge in positive COVID-19 cases continues in Maine, some health officials are concerned on what impact this will have on testing availability.

Tuesday, Maine set another single-day record for new positive COVID-19 cases at 127, according to the Maine CDC.

This marks the first time since July that Maine’s weekly positivity rate is above 1 percent.

This has some doctors around the state worried about our testing supplies.

A doctor and epidemiologist in Belfast told our information partners at CBS 13 that when the Brooks Pentecostal Church had its outbreak last month, they saw a sharp increase in testing.

“We’re doing about 50 tests a day, and after the outbreak in Brooks, we were doing over 100 tests a day for a few days,” Dr. Peter Millard said.

Though, others are less concerned as the state continues to draft partnerships with businesses to increase testing capacity.
