AUGUSTA (WGME) — One new coronavirus-related death was reported by the Maine CDC on Saturday.

The death toll now stands at 982.

There have been 83,909 coronavirus cases reported since the pandemic started. 60,042 have been confirmed and 23,867 are probable.

2,404 people have been hospitalized from the virus.

As of Friday, 201 people were currently hospitalized, including 76 who were in critical care, which is the highest total since the pandemic began, and 34 who were on a ventilator. There are currently 46 available critical care beds.

The Maine CDC says 90+ percent of those in the ICU are not fully vaccinated, and 60-70% of all hospitalized patients are not fully vaccinated.  Currently 74 percent of Mainers are fully vaccinated.

By comparison, on this day last year 43 new cases were reported and only 11 people were in the hospital with COVID-19.  At that time, 0 percent of Mainers were vaccinated.
