18-year-old Lobsterman Tyler Michaud from Steuben was reported missing since Friday. This goes after Michaud didn’t return from a day of hauling and setting traps near Petit Manan Point. A local fisherman found Michaud’s vacant boat ‘Top Gun’ adrift near Jones Port Friday evening.

The United States Coast Guard has suspended their participation in the search for the lobsterman. The coast guard tweeted Sunday that the search for Michaud was stopped after 40 hours and pending further developments.

The Maine Marine Patrol continued its search on Monday and Tuesday near Petit Manan Point, along with an Ariel search. Monday night Jeff Nichols, a Maine Department of Marine Resources spokesman, said the search effort turned up empty.

Michaud graduated from Summer Memorial high school in June and will start taking classes at the Maine Maritime Academy this fall, according to Summer Memorials’ principal.

The Principal of Charles M. Sumner Learning Campus, Principal Jackson Green, wrote Sunday. “Effective today, the United States Coast Guard and Maine Marine Patrol Service have switched their operations from a rescue to a recovery mission. We will all remain hopeful that somehow, Tyler may still be alive somehow.”

There are no further updates in the search for Michaud.
