Six people were hurt and three apartment buildings were destroyed by fire in Rumford overnight.

The fire was first reported just after 11 p.m. Sunday at 105 Hancock Street. The blaze then spread to two other buildings.

Some were treated for smoke inhalation, while others suffered injuries after jumping out of one of the buildings. Rumford’s fire chief said three people were in critical condition.

Two women had to jump from the third floor of one of the buildings because fire fighters say they couldn’t reach them.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office and Rumford police are investigating the cause.

Police say all three buildings are a total loss.
