SANFORD, Maine (WGAN) Three people are charged with kidnapping a 28-year-old man in Sanford last month.

Sanford Police say the victim was lured to an abandoned apartment by an acquaintance on January 11th. He was then held there against his will by 25-year-old Shantel Rodriguez, 26-year-old Dylan Austin and 22-year-old Cody Boudreau.

The man was forced to make phone calls demanding money to secure his release. He was also beaten and suffered life-threatening injuries, including a stabbing when he tried to escape. Police arrived on scene after a report from a neighbor of a man lying in a snowbank who appeared to have been assaulted.

The three were charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault.
