Town council to take up measure limiting cruise ship visitors in Bar Harbor

Bar Harbor residents may be voting on a new policy putting a cap on the number of daily visitors from cruise ships.

A new citizen petition would limit the number of people allowed to get off cruise ships each day to 1,000.

According to CBS 13 news, the group behind the effort says the town is overwhelmed by tourists. Opponents say it would hamper tourism and the economy.

The town council will take a look at the proposal in the coming weeks and decide whether the measure will appear on the November ballot.
