Tractor-trailer crash leads to delays on I-295

Police are asking to speak to anyone who witnessed a tractor-trailer rollover on I-295 in Falmouth on Monday.

Maine State Police said the crash happened near mile 10 around 1 p.m. when a tractor-trailer started to brake and jackknife.

66-year-old Jesse Philbrick of Limestone was stuck in the truck for a short period of time. The passenger side window was broken and Philbrick was able to get out without any injuries.

That stretch of road was shut down for about an hour and a half, and the left lane remained closed as cleanup continued through the afternoon. Traffic was being diverted to Route 1 as crews cleaned up a large amount of diesel fuel that spilled from a ruptured fuel tank.

Police say the crash happened when a vehicle entered I-295 from exit 10 and didn’t yield to Philbrick, causing him to apply his brakes and jackknife. Anyone who saw a black sedan that may have entered the interstate just before the incident is being asked to contact Maine State Police.
