Northbound traffic going into Portland came to a standstill Wednesday afternoon when the Casco Bay Bridge was stuck open.

South Portland police said the bridge got stuck around 4 p.m., with the issued fixed by 4:30 p.m.

Traffic was still backed up going into rush hour, with a city spokesperson saying it would take some time for things to return to normal.

South Portland Police Lt. Kevin Theriault told the Portland Press Herald heat was the likely cause of the mechanical issue, which has happened in the past.
