Police say one of two suspects arrested for drug possession in Brewer tried to hide drug paraphernalia in a child’s car seat.

Brewer Police say Officer Paul Hacker arrested two individuals during a routine nighttime patrol of Brewer City Parks Tuesday night.

While checking Indian Trail Park, he spotted a suspicious vehicle and, upon further investigation, found two occupants in possession of cocaine base, commonly known as crack.

The individuals, Amanda Brothers and Richard Newell of Old Town, also had a 5-year-old child in the car.

Police said Brothers tried to hide drug paraphernalia in the child’s set.

The child, who was unharmed, was released into the care of the Department of Health and Human Services.

Brothers and Newell were taken into custody and transported to Penobscot County Jail.
