ELLSWORTH, Maine (WGAN) Two men are under arrest after a drug bust in Ellsworth on Tuesday.

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency says 34-year-old Frankie Montero of Brooklyn, New York and Vega Alta, Puerto Rico was arrested, along with 25-year-old Joshua Kane of Ellsworth. They were taken into custody around 8 PM Tuesday after the discovery of $7,000 in suspected drug proceeds and other evidence of drug trafficking in an apartment at 153 State Street in Ellsworth.

Police say the presence of a 4-month-old in the apartment led to elevated charges for both men, who are facing charges of aggravated trafficking. The Maine Department of Health and Human Services Child Protective unit was also contacted. The child and its mother were in the apartment at the time of the search and when an undercover drug purchase took place as part of the investigation.

Both men were taken to Hancock County Jail and made their first court appearances yesterday. Montero is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail, and Kane on $15,000 bail.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are possible.
