Two People Injured After Police Cruiser is Rear-Ended

BELGRADE, Maine (WGAN) Police are working to reconstruct the crash after a deputy’s cruiser was rear-ended on Route 27 in Belgrade.

Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland says State Police and Kennebec Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the crash just after 6:15 Sunday night. Kennebec County Deputy Jeremy York was injured after his patrol vehicle was hit by a car being driven by 28-year-old Schuyler Mann of South Portland. Police say Mann veered into the breakdown lane where York’s vehicle was parked and rear-ended it.

Deputy York and Mann’s passenger, 27-year-old Katherine Hynd of South Portland, were taken to Maine General Hospital in Augusta for non-life threatening injuries. York has since been released from the hospital.

Police determined that Mann had fallen asleep at the wheel before the accident.
