Wonder what’s out beyond our planet? Ever seen weird stuff in the sky you can’t explain? If you said yes to either of these questions, you’d be venturing into the strange world of UFOs, and you wouldn’t be the first Mainer to do so.
According to the Mutual UFO Network and National UFO Reporting Center who’ve been these object for decades, official Unidentified Flying Object sightings in Maine have gone down significantly since 2020, with only 59 spotted this year compared to 2021’s 73, and 2020’s 98.
But that’s not to say Mainers aren’t seeing them. Our info partners at CBS 13 caught up with UFO author and researcher Normar Slevik to talk with him about these strange sightings.
“There’s a lot of sightings that are happening in Maine that are going unreported through official means,” Slevik said. “But sightings, if you look on social media, you’ll find that they are way up.
While there’s a chance of something extraterrestrial showing up in the pine tree states skies, Slevik stresses that UFO doesn’t mean alien all the time, and that most of the time it’s just aircraft such as helicopters and drones.
“For quite some time the acronym UFO has become synonymous with extraterrestrial, and even as a UFO author and researcher I’m very quick to tell people that just because something is unidentified, doesn’t mean that it’s extraterrestrial,” Slevik said.
