U.S. Rep. Jared Golden of Maine is declaring himself the winner of the race in Maine’s Second Congressional District.
Golden did not clear 50 percent support in Tuesday’s election, meaning the ranked choice vote moves to a runoff to determine the winner.
However, Golden spoke to reporters Thursday and said the final result is “undeniably clear.”
Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows announced the runoff Wednesday and said official results won’t come until next week.
The Bangor Daily News reported Tuesday that Golden’s victory following a runoff is all but assured.
Former Republican congressman Bruce Poliquin has not conceded and says he’s best equipped to help Mainers deal with rising prices and keep their homes warm this winter.
