Van Buren man charged in connection with overnight standoff

A Van Buren man is accused of assaulting another man and causing a standoff with police.

Police responded to a call Tuesday morning from a home on Castonguay Road in Van Buren. Maine State Police said a woman claimed her husband had been assaulted in an unprovoked attack.

The woman and her husband fled.

The suspect, 35-year-old Corey Vick, allegedly threatened to kill officers with a gun while trying to entice them to enter the residence.

A tactical team and crisis negotiation team entered the home to take Vick into custody around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Vick was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and then brought to Aroostook County Jail.

He was charged with two counts of Assault, Criminal threatening, Reckless Conduct with a Dangerous Weapon, two counts of Aggravated Criminal Mischief, and creating a police standoff.
